Current Job Opportunity Training Contract

The Justice First Fellowship Scheme (JFF) is a prestigious Scheme established to support the next generation of social justice lawyers who want to pursue a career in social welfare law. The Scheme has been established by The Legal Education Foundation (TLEF), in partnership with other funding organisations in the social welfare law sector.

Citizens Advice Bradford & Airedale and Bradford Law Centre is a large, busy service based across 3 sites in Bradford and Keighley. We help individuals and communities tackle the problems of everyday life which, if left unaddressed, could lead to homelessness, destitution, detention or deportation. We specialise in social welfare law and hold Legal Aid contracts in Housing, Welfare Benefits and Immigration and provide specialist level advice in Money Advice.

Under the supervision of qualified solicitors, you will be supported to complete the training and development needed to qualify as a solicitor specialising in social welfare law. For those on the LPC route, you will undertake the Professional Skills Course alongside your training with our organisation. For those following the Solicitors Qualifying Exams (SQE) pathway you will undertake self-directed learning and formal training, including an SQE preparation course and the SQE 2 assessment. The cost of your required training and assessments will be met by us.

Applicants for Fellowship positions must meet the following criteria:

  • To have completed and passed the Legal Practice Course (LPC) or a degree-level in any subject and successful completion of Part 1 of the Solicitors Qualifying Examination (SQE).

  • You must be willing and able to commit to remaining for the duration of the two-year Fellowship.

  • Additionally, you must have demonstrated a commitment to public interest or social welfare law. TLEF is particularly interested in students who wish to effect change in the legal community, such as members of public interest and/or pro bono organisations on campus and those who have dedicated time to serving low-income or less privileged communities either during or prior to law school.

  • Salary: £24,278

  • Hours: 37 per week

  • Holidays: 25 days plus 8 bank holidays plus 3 additional days
