Are you passionate about defending the rights of marginalised communities? Do you want to use the law to challenge systemic injustice? The Covid-19 Public Inquiry is about to review how the government’s response to the pandemic affected the most vulnerable. Join us to hold government to account!
About us
PILC works in collaboration with grassroots groups, campaigners and frontline organisations, advocating through legal action in three key priority areas: state accountability; housing, land, and community assets; migrants’ rights & racial justice. We mainly do this through legal representation and strategic litigation in public law, actions against public authorities and housing law. We are also instructed to represent a number of individuals and groups/organisations in public inquiries, including the Undercover Policing Inquiry and the Covid Inquiry.
We have recently been granted core participant status to act on behalf of a large number of organisations who will be participating in the final and perhaps most important Module of the Covid Inquiry. This Module will examine the impact of Covid on the population of the United Kingdom with a particular focus on key workers, the most vulnerable, the bereaved, mental health and wellbeing.
PILC is currently made up of 19 staff, hybrid-working from our offices in Cambridge Heath, E2.
About you
We seek a Paralegal with two years’ experience, with a strong interest in undertaking work in Public Inquiries. It is not necessary to have prior experience in this area, but knowledge of one or more of the following social issues will be important: migrants’ rights, precarious labour, domestic abuse and the carceral environment, including immigration detention. You will have a strong eye for detail and the ability to identify key information swiftly in large volumes of disclosure.
You will be self-motivated and eager to work with our grassroots partners to highlight the injustices their members were subject to during the pandemic. You will also need to be highly organised, supporting solicitors in liaising with counsel, the core participants and ensuring that work undertaken is billed promptly and accurately.
In return, you will be supported and supervised by a solicitor and become a valued member of PILC’s Inquiries team, joining colleagues who share your passion for social justice.
