Paralegal (Covid 19 Public Inquiry)

Are you passionate about using the law for change? Do you want to work with us to challenge systemic injustice, holding the decision-makers to account with regard to governmental preparedness for, and the policy responses to, the Covid 19 pandemic?

About us

We work in collaboration with grassroots groups, campaigns and frontline organisations, advocating through legal action in three key priority areas: state accountability, housing & land, and migrants’ rights & racial justice. We do this through our public law challenges, actions against public authorities, and housing law that specialises in defending the rights of Gypsies, travellers and boat dwellers. In addition to litigation directly on behalf of clients, we take instructions from core participants in a number of ongoing inquiries including; the Public Inquiry into Undercover Policing, the Covid-19 Public Inquiry and an inquiry set up by Unite the Union to investigate claims a number of its staff passed information on members to major construction companies involved in the ‘blacklisting’ of trade unionist activists from the early 1990s through to 2009. Our team is currently made up of 17 staff, hybrid-working from our modern offices in Cambridge Heath, E2.

About you

We seek a Paralegal with two years’ experience, ideally with knowledge and experience of publicly funded work. You will be familiar with the key concepts used in public law, have a strong eye for detail, and the ability to identify key information swiftly, as you’ll be reviewing large volumes of disclosure from the Covid 19 Public Inquiry on behalf of our core participants. As such, you will be a key member of the Inquiries team, liaising with counsel, the core participants and ensuring that work undertaken is billed promptly and accurately.

Any queries? If you have any questions or want to discuss any aspects of the role, please contact jean.demars@pilc.org.uk
