Head of Legal Casework and Compliance

We are the largest Law Centre in the country, and we provide specialist legal advice to people across Coventry and Birmingham. Our aim is to use the law to seek change, so that those facing poverty or disadvantage, discrimination or exclusion are better able to take a full and active part in society.

This role is central to the work we do, providing a focus on maintaining our Lexcel accreditation and compliance with regulatory obligations, while ensuring we provide an excellent service to clients, many of whom may be experiencing trauma or significant disadvantage. You will lead our Team Heads who are experienced lawyers and will work with them to develop systems and processes that enable team members to work in a supportive and structured environment.

You will bring experience in leading and managing a team of caseworkers or solicitors. You will be able to support and nurture a culture of excellence amongst our casework teams, and you will have the ability to apply strategic thinking to our casework service and how we best support those who need our services.

You will be joining the Law Centre at a critical time for the organisation as we embed a new five-year strategy that puts rights at the heart of solutions to poverty and disadvantage in Coventry, Birmingham and the wider West Midlands area.

Most of all, you will be committed to the vision and values of the Law Centre and you will understand the impact of poverty and disadvantage on individuals, families and communities and the role access to justice and increased knowledge of legal rights has in mitigating this.

Terms and conditions

This is a full-time position with a salary of between £40,375 - £45,527 depending on experience.

This role is based at our Coventry office which is 5 minutes from the railway station. You will be required to work from time to time at our Birmingham office. The pandemic means we are currently all home working, but we expect as we emerge from this there will still be some flexibility for home-working some of the time.

Our terms and conditions include a 37-hour working week, flexible working hours; 28 days holiday (rising by 1 day per year of service to 35 days after 5 years’ service) plus 8 statutory days, pension scheme membership and access to an employee assistance programme.
