Starting at circa £27,000 FTE (dependant on experience)
One-year fixed term contract (with potential to be extended subject to funding)

Suffolk Law Centre (SLC) is looking for a Discrimination Legal Advisor to support the work and development of our small, busy Discrimination team as part of our Tackling Discrimination in the East (TDE) project.
SLC was opened on 23rd March 2018. We are part of the Ipswich and Suffolk Council for Racial Equality (ISCRE) Group of Charities. We work closely in partnership with ISCRE, share values based on equality and human rights, and are co-located.
Based in Ipswich, we hold a Housing Legal Aid contract, and offer Legal Advice Clinics, supported by over 50 pro bono solicitor and barrister advisers, as well as a range of social justice grant-funded services across the region. Suffolk Law Centre aims to tackle discrimination, inequality and access to justice across East Anglia.
The Tackling Discrimination in the East project provides free legal advice, advocacy and representation for victims of all types of unlawful discrimination and harassment in employment and goods and services, who cannot access legal help elsewhere. We also undertake training and awareness raising.
We are funded by The National Lottery Community Fund until 31st August 2022 to provide a service in Suffolk as well as a limited service in Norfolk. We also undertake training and awareness raising.
As Discrimination Legal Advisor, you have the potential to become a specialist discrimination advisor. You will develop your specialist legal knowledge, skills and casework experience to enable you to be part of this dedicated team.
Your work will be a mixture of legally aided work and grant funded work. We are working towards recommencement of our Legal Aid Civil Standard Contract 2018 in Discrimination.
Whilst the post is open to all, we are particularly keen to attract candidates who are from backgrounds currently underrepresented in the law, and who may have experienced of some of the issues faced by our clients.
