Debt Adviser / Trainee Debt Adviser (P/T or F/T)

Leeds Citizens Advice & Law Centre helps over 30,000 people a year with welfare benefits, debt, housing, energy issues, and more. We’re looking for enthusiastic and motivated individuals to join our dedicated team of advice professionals.

  • Part-time or Full-time role (21-35 hours, subject to funding)

  • Qualified NJC Salary Scale Points 18-22 (£32,578 - £34,811) pro rata

  • Trainees NJC Salary Scale points 7-12 (£27,274 - £29,071) pro rata

As a Debt Adviser, you will provide debt advice and casework in person and over the phone for a wide range of clients, using strong communication and interpersonal skills to support individuals in vulnerable circumstances. You will manage and maintain an active caseload providing a comprehensive advice, advocacy and casework service to Leeds Citizens Advice & Law Centre clients on all matters relating to debt and money advice. This will include advising clients on dealing with their priority and non- priority debts, debt solutions, budgeting, and maximising income, including through benefits claims. The adviser will liaise and negotiate with a range of third parties to manage the client’s issues, and support and empower them to improve their situation and achieve a debt solution. This role would suit a generalist adviser wishing to develop specialist skills in debt and money advice.

If you can offer enthusiasm and a desire to learn, strong IT and communication skills, we’re offering training and support to enable you to achieve full competence in 6 months. All applicants should be organised, with the ability to work independently. Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential as is the ability to listen, engage and empathise with vulnerable clients.
