Community Engagement Officer

Help us adapt to the post Covid-19 world

There are 40 Law Centres across England, Wales, and Northern Ireland providing free legal advice and representation to thousands of people who would otherwise have no access to legal services.  Law Centres champion human rights and equality and challenge exclusion, discrimination and inequality, using the law to achieve social change. The Law Centres Network (LCN) is the national voice of Law Centres.

Law Centres, like so many local agencies, had to quickly respond to Covid-19 and immediately shift services to remote provision, but this was done thinking it would be temporary. We now realise that the world has truly changed, the end to the crisis is not in sight. We have spent the last six months talking with our member Law Centres to better understand the needs of their local communities and helping them to adapt their services in response to an unfolding situation.

Building on this foundation, we now need to dig deeper; supporting Law Centres across our network to engage more effectively with their communities; building capacity, competency and creativity so that our services are designed and delivered with and by the communities they serve.

We are looking for a part time Community Engagement Officer who is excited by our mission and wants to contribute to this intensive and ambitious work over the next year (Salary £29,577 pro rata plus London weighting where appropriate).

Experience of adapting services to improve access and an understanding of the role legal assistance can play in addressing disadvantage and advancing social justice is essential.

You will also need experience of:

  • working with volunteers;

  • engaging with local communities and their organisations;

  • gathering insight to understand how people behave and how to best respond.

You will be joining a small and dedicated team, based across England and Wales but currently working remotely. Our work atmosphere is friendly and informal but diligent and hardworking.
